Do you know what Leap Motion is?
Leap Motion is a device that enables applications to be controlled by means of hand gestures based on a 3D movement monitoring system. It will end up becoming a kind of kinect, but much more precise. It functions with a tiny gadget that is connected to computer equipment:
The PrevenControl R&D&I department possesses this technology since it was launched in July 2013 and is carrying out different tests, because despite being a relatively incipient product, a multitude of related applications can be created, for which the development possibilities are impressive.
I would like to show you a video so that you can see what it’s about:
In particular, I’m thinking about the possibility of taking this type of technology one step further and from PrevenControl the idea is to find a utility applied to the area of occupational safety and health. The first thing that springs to my mind is being able to simplify the processes of ergonomic evaluation, such as awkward positions and repetitive movements.
For example, being able to obtain a monitoring of the work positions or the movements carried out by a worker, simply by capturing them through a mobile phone (shortly, this technology will be able to be implemented on laptops): Can you imagine the volume of work you could save? The application of video analysis methods and posterior calculations will be left behind, as the number and range of movements carried out by each limb (e.g., in an assembly chain, between different work posts), would be available, over a period of time and at the same time they can be communicated via Bluetooth or Wi-Fi to a computer application, through which the results obtained can be compared and made available.
Considering the rapid progress of the technological world, do you think it could become a reality on the not too distant future?
