I was always interested in learning the origin of things, like when I was a child and read books like “How do things work?”. In part, it is only pure curiosity…
So, I asked myself “When did we start to talk about preventing risks at work?”. As a consequence of my inquisitiveness, I decided to collect information, what was not difficult at all: As I was told time ago “Google is your friend”. After several attempts, I found an extract of the book “Labour risks prevention technics” (excerpt in Spanish), by Antonio Creus Solé (1934-2011), a great engineer and doctor and influencer in the post´s issue.
In the book, the author talks about origin and evolution of preventing risks at work. Just what I was looking for!.
We must go back to year 1770 b.C., to Babylonian King Hammurabi (1792-1750 b.C.) in particular, to find the first Law Code (well known as Code of Hammurabi), which consists of 282 laws, some of which are referred to accidents at construction site and the civil and criminal responsibilities. For example, law 229 on professional responsibility, says that if a building collapses and kills its residents, the architect will be sentenced to death penalty. It´s clear that things are now different.
Here you have the rest of laws in the Code of Hammurabi, currently displayed at Louvre Museum in Paris.
Nowadays, we must look forward and get involved in risk prevention development and all around it. In PrevenControl, we want to collaborate with the growth of risks prevention present and future and continue writing pages of its history. Do you join us?. We wait you at www.prevencontrol.com.
